EPCA 1757 was lodged on the 23rd July 2009. The tenement covers a total of 90 sub-blocks and is located within the Charters Towers mining district. Gravity images of the region identify a remnant outlier east of the edge of the current Galilee Basin. Hole BEA315 was drilled by Normandy Exploration Limited in 1996 as part of a gold exploration program within the centre of EPCA 1757. The drill hole intersected 6 metres of coal at a vertical depth of 41 metres.
Further geological investigation of the Charters Towers 1:250,000 geological map reveals a substantial outcrop (approximately 40 km Sq) of Warang Sandstone between the Just Range and stratigraphic borehole Charters Towers 1. The Warang Sandstone conformably overlies the Betts Creek Beds and provides good evidence that shallow coal bearing strata subcrops over an extensive area within the exploration permit. The Betts Creek Beds are the northern correlative of the coal bearing Bandanna Formation.
The Lake Powlathanga lease in transected by the Mt Isa - Townsville rail line and highway, and is approximately 260km from the Abbot Point coal terminal.
