ATPA 946 consists of 2303 subblocks covering prospective Eromanga, Galilee, Drummond, and Adavale Basin sediments. Geologically, it is bordered on the west by the Warrabin Trough and the Cooper Basin. Located 10km off the eastern boundary lies the Gilmore Gas Field, which is a dry, high pressure gas field, reservoired in the Devonian Lissoy Sandstone. The Gilmore Field supplies Barcaldine Power Station via the Barcaldine pipeline. There is compelling seismic evidence that the source and reservoir rocks of the Gilmore field rise up and subcrop in a large angular unconformity in the south eastern corner of the lease, indicating that commercial quantities of gas or oil may be present at shallower depths. A seismic program followed by exploratory drilling is needed to pinpoint possible structural and lithological traps. Extensive thick Winton Formation coal seams also provide an attractive potential target for Coal Seam Gas exploration.
